For the Final of the Second Semester, we had to create a dish inspired by food that holds special meaning to us. I chose deviled eggs because they are a dish I often make with my dad, and they were also my great-uncle’s favorite food. My great-uncle passed away during my freshman year, so making this dish was a way for me to honor his memory and feel connected to both him and my dad.
For my project, I designed and made a dish specifically to hold deviled eggs. I wanted it to be both functional and meaningful, so I decided to use a glass egg lid to press indents into the clay, ensuring each egg would have a secure spot. I even tested the dish with a real egg to make sure the size and shape were right.
To make the dish visually striking, I chose a vibrant color palette: pink, orange, blue, and purple. These colors make the dish stand out and give it a playful, celebratory feel. In the center, I painted a white and yellow egg design to tie the whole theme together and to represent the deviled eggs themselves.
Overall, this project was a way for me to blend creativity, family memories, and practical design into one piece. Making this dish helped me reflect on the people I care about and gave me a chance to express those feelings through art.
